Task
When you have completed this WebQuest, you will:

• Know the names of the three types of rocks • Be able to recognize how each type of rock is formed • Be able to name an example of each type of rock • Be able to accurately label a diagram of the rock cycle |
Your information will be recorded and stored in your Science Notebook
in the form of notes and drawings.
Your final project will be one of three options
which are discussed at the end of the process page.

Your journey begins... 1. To travel through the Rock Cycle, begin with starting a new page in your Science Notebook. Title: Geology WebQuest

Make a diagram like this on your notebook page:

■ Rocks are composed of minerals. Only a few rockforming minerals make up most of the rock on Earth. Minerals are identified on the basis of physical properties such as streak, hardness, and reaction to acid. (2.1e) ■ Rocks are classified according to their method of formation. The three classes of rocks are sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous. Most rocks show characteristics that give clues to their formation conditions. (2.2g) ■ The rock cycle model shows how types of rock or rock material may be transformed from one type of rock to another. (2.2h)
