Introduction
The Zombie
Zombies, often depicted as decaying, flesh-eating creatures, have origins in various cultures, especially Haitian voodoo. Unlike other mythical beings, documented cases of zombies have occurred in Haiti. Bokors voodoo priests used tetrodotoxin, a neurotoxin found in pufferfish, to induce states resembling death, causing paralysis that could mimic death. Some individuals were buried alive and later "revived" to work as slaves.
