Introduction

Throughout Junior High and High School, you have been asked to know and understand various literary devices, such as the elements of plot, conflict, theme, characterization, and so on. As we continue to read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, I want you to be aware of these literary devices and be able to analyze these devices within the novel.
Task
You and your group will create a Google presentation to share with the class that explores various literary devices found in The Hunger Games. Each person in your group will be responsible for a different literary device, and you will collaborate on Google Docs. When you are finished, you will upload your presentation to a discussion so the whole class can view it.
Process
The Assignment:
Step 1: Each member of your group needs to decide what literary device they will be responsible for researching and creating their slides for. The literary devices are as follows: Characterization, Theme, Conflict, and Plot. ***If you have only 3 members in your group, only cover Characterization, Theme, and Conflict.
Step 2: Research your literary term and discover everything you can about it to become an expert on the term. Here are some good sites to get you started:

Step 3: Each person is going to create a minimum of 3 slides that will teach the class what we need to know about this literary term.
Slide 1: Name the term and define it. This definition should not simply be copied and pasted from of the resources. This definition should be put in your own words that are easily understandable to the rest of the class.
Slide 2-3: Provide relevant examples of this literary device as we see it in the novel. Be sure to include quotes, page numbers, and any other relevant details that let the class understand how this literary device is shown in the novel.
Setting Up the Assignment
Step 1: Choose your group leader. This group leader is the one who will initially create the Google Slides and will also be the one submitting the final assignment.
Step 2: The group leader will go to Google Slides on their Chromebook and create a new Google Slides presentation. You will name this presentation "Hunger Games Literary Devices." You and your group will also choose a common "theme" or background for the slides.

Step 3: The group leader will share the document with the other members of the group. In the top right hand corner of the page, click on the blue button that says "Share."

Start typing in the names of your group members in the box provided. Make sure the e-mails of your group members correspond with the student ID numbers of your members. Make sure the box to the right of the name box is marked as "Can edit." Click "Done" when all of your members have been added.
Step 4: Begin working on your slides. Make sure that your group members put their name on the slide that has the term and definition listed.
Submitting the Assignment
Step 1: On Schoology, go to the assignment "Hunger Games Literary Devices. The group leader is the only one who is posting your presentation, so this part is only for him/her. In the discussion box, type the following words: Here is our presentation. You have the option to add a file, link, resource, or audio/video recording. Choose to add a "resource" and click on "Apps." Choose your group's presentation to import, and then click "import file."
Evaluation
You and your group will be judged on various criteria.
Completeness: do you and your group have all of the components I asked you to have (definitions and examples of your terms)? Are there 3 slides (at least) for every member of your group?
Accuracy: is your information correct and put into your own words? Are your examples relevant and related to your topic?
Neatness/Appearance: is your presentation free from any glaring grammatical or mechanical errors? Does it look interesting and pleasing to the eye? Is the information arranged in a way that is easy to understand?
