Should is a modal verb, and we use should and shouldn't to make suggestions and give advice. The form of should is the same for all persons.

Task 1: Read the dialogue 

Emma: Hi, Jodie. Are you going to come to the

            concert tonight?

Jodie: No. I’ve got a sore throat and earache.

Emma: You poor thing. You should go to bed.

Jodie: I am in bed. You’ve just woken me up.

Emma: Sorry. Get better soon.



Tom: Hi, Jodie. Emma says you’re ill.

Jodie: Yes. I feel terrible and my throat

           really hurts.

Tom: You shouldn’t go to the concert tonight

        then. You should stay in bed and drink

        lots of water.

Jodie: OK. Bye.



Kiran: Hello, Jodie. Tom says you don’t feel very

           well.

Jodie: No, I don’t.

Kiran: You should try to sleep.

Jodie: But I can’t with all these phone calls.

Kiran: You should turn your phone off.

Students will be evaluated for reading the text and completing the tasks correctly with 10% of the final grade.

They will also be evaluated for the creation of new sentences with the modal verbs should and shouldn't and their interpretation in class.
