Introduction

What is a Parody poem?

An imitation of another author's poem or characteristic style.

<My Heart Leaps Up>

William Wordsworth

leaps up when I behold 

   A rainbow in the sky:

So was it when my life began; 

So is it now I am a man; 

So be it when I shall grow old, 

   Or let me die!

The Child is father of the Man;

And I could wish my days to be

Bound each to each by natural piety.

Task

1. Ss need to appreciate William Wordsworth's poetry and the meaning on nature to William Wordsworth.

2. Ss should be able to understand what Paradox is and can make a sentence by using Paradox.

3. Ss should write a Parody poem by using a paradox

Process

<William Wordsworth's poetry>

- Ss research some characteristic styles of William Wordsworth's poem (Group work by using 'Mentimeter').

 

<Meaning on nature to William Wordsworth>

- Ss pick one poem written by William Wordsworth.

- Ss guess the meaning of nature in the poem (Group work by using 'Edrawmind').

 

<Understanding what Paradox>

- T teaches the definition of 'Paradox'.

- Ss practice how to find the hidden meaning from Paradox.

- Ss try to make 3 sentences using paradox.

 

<Writing a Parody poem by using a paradox>

- T inform what is a Parody poem.

- T inform which contents Ss fill in the blank.

- Ss make their own Parody poem (Pair work by using Padlet).

 

 

 

Evaluation

<Test>

- Ss can make 3 sentences by using paradox and can explain the hidden meaning of it.

- Ss can explain the meaning of the line in <My Heart Leaps Up> which paradox is used.

- Ss can create their own parody poem by using paradox.

Conclusion

Students will be able to appreciate Romantic poetry by analyzing the poems of William Wordsworth and understanding his poetic world. Furthermore, in the process of understanding the poems and the poet, students can enhance their ability to share and develop ideas through group activities with classmates. It is anticipated that students will enhance their skills in creative expression by learning and practicing paradoxes, creating sentences with paradoxical elements based on what they have learned. Lastly, by creating their own poems based on the knowledge they got, students can gain a better understanding of the world of poetry.
