Introduction
Hello, 6th graders!
This semester in Social Studies, we've been researching and presenting on the ways people live in different countries. We've also explored the natural and cultural environments of our country and neighboring ones, learning about the festivals celebrated in these regions. Thanks to the interest you've all shown, I've put together this project-based lesson to dive even deeper into these fascinating celebrations!
So...
This week, you're going to explore festivals from around the world!
You'll learn about the Rio Carnival, Sapporo Snow Festival, La Tomatina, Edinburgh Festival, and Chinese New Year. For each festival, you'll become an expert and create a poster.
Your poster should include:
- When the festival take place
- The fun activities people can enjoy
- The schedule of the festival
- Any supplies or preparations needed to fully experience the festival
Get ready to dive into these amazing celebrations from different cultures!
But before we get started, let's learn a bit more about festivals and what makes them special.
Festivals are special times when people come together to celebrate something important to them, like a season or natural environment, a tradition, or a historical event.
For example:
- Rio Carnival celebrates Brazilian culture with music and dancing
- Sapporo Snow Festival highlights the beauty of winter with ice sculptures
- La Tomatina in Spain is a fun event where people throw tomatoes in celebration
- Edinburgh Festival brings people together to celebrate the arts
- Chinese New Year is about welcoming the new year with family and tradition.
Festivals often include exciting activies, food, music, and sometimes parades or costumes. They're a way for people to share joy and connect with their culture and community!
I'll be waiting to see your posters, experts.
Good luck!
