Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Introduction

You have been asked to rate a classical composer on their overall effect on music and history.  You will research the life and career of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and assign him a letter grade based on your findings.  Are you good enough to rate one of the most famous composers of all time?  Let's hope so!

Task

You will use one website to find out information about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart so you can make a logical decision about his impact on music and history.

Read through the entire process before beginning.  You will work in groups of (3) to create a Google Slides presentation sharing your research.  Once you have completed the assignment, you will share your presentation with Mrs. Onufer for review.

You are responsible for dividing the work among yourselves.  Or you may all work together on all of the slides.  You must have at least 8 slides in your presentation!

You will create (8) slides.  The directions for each slide are listed below.

Slide #1 - Title Page - Please type the names of all members of your group.  You should also find a picture of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to include on this slide.

Slide #2 - On the website, click on Who was Mozart?  You will use this section to answer all of the following questions:

1. What was Mozart's full name?

2. When was Mozart born?

3. Where was Mozart born?

4. Why is Mozart so famous?

5. At what age could Mozart play and write music?

6. When did Mozart die?

Slide #3 - On the website, click on A Wonderful Child.  You will use this section to answer all of the following questions:

1. How did Mozart's father earn a living?

2. How was Mozart a unique child?

3. What did the Emperor of Austria think of Mozart?

4. Where did Mozart go during his first major musical tour in 1763?

5. What composer did Mozart meet in London during his first tour?

Slide #4 - On the website, click on Mozart at Work.  You will use this section to answer all of the following questions:

1. At what age did Mozart write his first opera?

2. What did Mozart play for the first time in 1777?

3. What did Mozart do to make money?

4. Who did Mozart fall in love with in 1777?

5. What tragedy happened to Mozart in 1778?

Slide #5 - On the website, click on Mozart the Composer.  You will use this section to answer all of the following questions:

1. Who did Mozart marry in 1782? Who was she related to?

2. What secret organization did Mozart join in 1784?

3. Did Mozart have a lot of wealth?

4. How many children did Mozart have?

5. How many of Mozart's children survived to adulthood?

6. What events happened to Mozart in 1787?

Slide #6 - On the website, click on What Mozart Left Us.  You will use this section to answer all of the following questions:

1. How many symphonies did Mozart write in his lifetime?

2. In what year did Mozart die?

3. What was unique about Mozart's burial?

4. What does the city of Salzburg do every year to honor Mozart?

Slide #7 - On the website, click on Fun Facts.  You will use this section to answer all of the following questions:

1. What was one of Mozart's favorite party tricks?

2. What famous princess did Mozart meet as a boy?  What happened to the famous princess during the French Revolution?

3. How many pieces of music did Mozart write during his lifetime?

4. How old was Mozart when he wrote his first symphony?

5. What was the Mozart family name?

Slide #8 - What grade would you give Mozart for his impact on music and history?  You may choose A  B  C  D or F.  You must list (3) reasons why your group decided to give Mozart this grade.  This is your opinion.  There is no right or wrong answer.

You must also include 1 example of a piece of music written by Mozart.  You must link this example to your slide using YouTube or any other site you may find.

 

Evaluation

Your presentation may receive a total of 100 points.  Points will be assigned as follows:

Each slide will be worth up to 10 points. (80 points total)

Did you answer all of the questions?  Are your answers correct? (Slides 2-7)

Did you include the names of all of your team members? (Slide 1)

Did you assign a letter grade to Mozart? (Slide 8)

10 points for the theme of your presentation.

Are your slides attractive?  Is there a theme throughout your presentation?  

10 points for the reasons you gave Mozart the grade you chose.  Do the reasons make sense?  Are the reasons based on your research?  Did you include an example of a song written by Mozart?

Thank you for taking the time to research, review, and rate this famous composer.  Your participation in this project will help the world to decide how music and history has been influenced and by whom.
