Will it sink or float.

Introduction

What sinks?

What floats?

What is the difference and what causes things to float?

We will use the scientific method and do a hands on lab the same way scientists do.

Task

I will partner the class up.  You and your partner will have a container of water.  You have to guess whether or not you think the object in question will sink or float.  After recording on your worksheet what you believe will happen you must then put the object in the water to see whether it sinks or floats.

Process

There are 4 steps to the scientific method.

1. Observation- Use your senses

2. Hypothesis- Decide what you believe will happen

3. Test- You actually do the test to decide whether your hypothesis was correct or not

4. Conclusion- Write down whether you guess was wrong or right

The items are a balloon, pen, paper clip, feather, quarter, and a small toy.

Shape size and weight determines if something will float or not.

Evaluation

Teamwork/Participation worked well with partner Not able to work well with partner.
Understanding Scientific Method Understood all 4 terms. Did not understand all 4 terms.

Conclusion

The experiment is all done.  Great job working together and learning the scientific method.
