Why be confident?

Introduction

Confidence is a belief in oneself, the conviction that one has the ability to meet life's challenges and to succeed—and the willingness to act accordingly. Being confident requires a realistic sense of one’s capabilities and feeling secure in that knowledge. The more confident you become, the more you’ll be able to calm the voice inside you that says, “I can’t do it.” You’ll be able to unhook from your thoughts and take action in line with your values (psychologytoday.com, n.d.).

Task

Each Student will be asked to;

1. Create a journal, highlighting things that make them feel positive about themselves

2.  Write a letter to themselves outlining things they like and believe

Process

Each student will receive a sheet of paper, where they will be asked to draw up three columns (negative self-talk they find themselves using, things that trigger them to feel negative, and then positive statements they use. Once the students have completed this, they then will share it with their fellow classmates

Evaluation

After completing the previous activity, the class will be placed in groups of five (5) where each group will do a role play of what a confident individual looks like.

Conclusion

At the end of this topic, each student is required to draw a picture of themselves (or paste a photo) in the center of a sheet of paper or poster board. Around the picture, students write roles that define them (e.g., son/daughter, sibling, student, soccer player, friend, etc.).

In a wider circle around the picture and the roles, students write positive traits to describe themselves. This activity helps students reflect on their identity and self-image. It also gives them the opportunity to recognize their positive qualities(biglifejournal. com,n.d.)

Instead of being crippled by failure, resilient children get up quickly, learn from their mistakes, and try again.

They accept that failure is a part of life and take more chances as a result - which makes them even more successful later in life (Marlborough,2019).
