Your goal for this webquest is to follow the instructions and complete the activities/project so that you will be able to:

  • explain the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs,
  • create a business idea (with an original name, motto, and logo), and
  • successfully create a basic business plan for your business.

Shark Tank Activity:

Let's take a look at some more real life entrepreneurs!  Have you ever watched the show, "Shark Tank"?  

Working with a partner, answer the following questions in your class notes.

Choose ONE idea that is being pitched to the Sharks and watch the entrepreneur's pitch:

Answer the following questions with your partner.

  1. Explain what the business idea is.
  2. Discuss how the entrepreneur(s) pitched their idea to the Sharks.  
  3. How were they able to market themselves as an entrepreneur, and their product/service?
  4. Do you think the idea would be successful? Why or why not?

Complete the Entrepreneurship Test.  In a Word document, copy and paste your score for the assessment and the brief summary of your results.  Share your opinion of your results in 2-3 sentences.

Business Brainstorm Activity

In your class notes, complete the Business Brainstorm activity by answering the questions below.  

  1. Think about yourself.  List one of your hobbies, one of your interests, and one area of expertise.  
  2. Reflect on your hobby, interest, and area of expertise.  Choose ONE to use as your business idea.
  3. What will your business do?
  4. Using the internet, find 2 existing business that sell what you plan to sell.  Copy and paste the web addresses.
  5. Where are the companies located?
  6. List 1 thing that you like about each website.
  7. List 1 thing that you dislike about each website (if any).
  8. After reviewing each company’s website, what will your business provide that is different or better than theirs?
  9. Think of and list an original business name AND motto.

Why are logos important?

McDonald’s, Apple, Google, Nike, and Coca-Cola have some of the world’s most recognizable logos. Wouldn’t you want your company’s logo to be just a recognized? Let’s look at some reasons why these logos are so recognized.

What has made these logos so famous?

One thing that is very obvious in these logos is that these logo designs are very simple. No fancy or complex graphic art work done. But yet they are excellent memory triggers.

Part 1: LOGO Research

Go to the following website: http://www.logoblog.org/famous_logo_design.php

Review the logos for well-known companies. Choose 3 logos.

For each of the 3 logos you choose:

  • Copy and paste each logo
  • List what each logo represents
  • 1 fact about the logo (where it came from, how it was designed, etc.)

 

Part 2: LOGO Design

Go to http://www.logogarden.com/.  Design your logo.  You will need to enter your email in order to receive your logo.  Download your logo and insert it into a MS Word Doc.

You have researched entrepreneurship and developed your own business idea. The next step would be to create your Business plan and pitch to investors. Then you will be officially ready to market your company!!!
