Introduction

Welcome, junior detectives! 

Description: Your town needs your help! The mayor is missing, and no one knows who’s supposed to do what. Your job is to explore your community and learn who keeps things running. Let’s find out who the real heroes of your town are!

Grade level: 3-5 

Curriculum: Civics & Government, Community & Citizenship

Task

You will research 5 different community helpers and discover:

  1. What they do

     

  2. Why their job is important

     

  3. Tools they use

     

  4. How they help others

     

Then, you will create a “Community Helper Trading Card” for each one and present your favorite in a short Flip or class presentation.

Pick your favorite helper and record a short video (or present live) explaining:

  • Why you admire them

Evaluation

You’ll be graded (or given feedback) based on:

  • Accuracy of your research

  • Creativity in your trading cards

  • Effort and presentation skills

  • Participation in class discussion

Now you know who runs your town! Every job is important and works together to make the community safe, happy, and healthy. Maybe one day, you will be one of these helpers!
