Let's learn about Seuss! Do you know anything about the man behind the Cat in the Hat? Hopefully after the research you do with your ELG group you will learn so much more! Let's grab our hats and learn a lot about that!
Task
Your task is to research and learn new facts about the man behind the Cat in the Hat. You will complete You will digitally produce a 5 slide power point with your ELG group. Then you will independently complete a informational writing assignment on Dr. Seuss.
1.W.TTP.2 With prompting and support, write informative/explanatory texts, naming a topic, supplying some facts about the topic, and providing some sense of closure.
1.W.PDW.6 With guidance and support from adults, and in collaboration with peers, explore a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing.
Process
Task 1: (Day 1-2) You will read a biography on Dr. Seuss on Epic: https://www.getepic.com/app/read/47322. As you read independently - answer the questions on your fact sheet about Dr. Seuss.

Task 2 (Day 2-4): You will discuss your new knowledge on Dr. Seuss with your ELG group. You will decide as a group what information should be included in your power point. With the help of your leader, you will each design 1 power point slide about Dr. Seuss.
Task 3: (Day 5): You will finish up your group slide show and practice presenting your slides to your ELG leader.
Task 4: (Day 6): We will present our slide shows during ELG time.
Task 5: (Day 7): You will use your 2nd writing graphic organizer to begin your Dr. Seuss writing.
Task 6:(Day 8-10): We will begin writing conferences as you work toward your final draft of your Dr. Seuss writing

I planned this activity to be used during our 30 minute ELG groups. I am always lacking the time to teach the standard to digitally produce a writing assignment and felt this assignment would be the perfect opportunity. This is a way to help students transition into researching different writing topics independently.
