What is my future career?

Introduction

Thinking about careers can be intimidating. You may be wondering how to pick a career that you will enjoy and interested in. This webquest will help. However, if you already know, this activity will give you some more options as you learn what careers best match to your interests. 

In this webquest, you will be taking the O*Net Interest Profile.

Task

This profiler consists of 60 questions that will help determine what your interests are and give you examples of careers that would suit you. This is not a test, so do not worry about getting the question wrong. There are no wrong answers as you are answering the question with you own opinion.

The profiler breaks your interests into different categories:  Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. When you get your results click on your top two highest scores to  learn about those interest. 

After you have read about your top two interests, click next to read about Job Zones. Follow the directions on the screen to learn which job zone you should pick. 

Once you have determined a job zone, you will follow the directions on the screen and end with careers based on which job zone you chose. 

The careers will be divided between best fit (blue puzzle pieces) and great fit (white puzzle pieces). Choose a career with a blue puzzle or one that seems interesting. Once you have chosen a career click on it and you will be taken to a screen to learn more about the career you chose. 

Click on the "Process" button to answer some questions about the career you chose.

Now that you have found your career, answer the following questions. 

 

1. What is the career/job you chose? What does this career do? 

2. What would you be doing while on the job? 

3. What knowledge, skills, and abilities are required for someone working in this job position? 

4. Is technology needed to perform this job? If so, what software will you be working with this most? 

5. Under the personality section, you enjoy what type of activities? Also, you would look for a job that required you to have what characteristics? 

6. What is the local job salary in your area for this career? 

7. Are there any current job openings for this career, in your local area? 

8. What are two other jobs options you could explore? 

9. What other career cluster or industry does the website recommended? 

10. What education is needed for your career? 

               A. List one place you can go for training. 

               B. Are there any certification you could get. If so, list one. 

               C. Are there any license needed? If so, please list one.

After you have answered the questions, use google docs to write two paragraphs about your chosen career. Your two paragraphs should include the information you researched in questions 1-10. Please submit your assignment on google classroom. 

            Also, include in your paragraph if you agree with the profiler. If you do, tell me why and what interests you about this career. If you do not agree with the profiler, tell me why and what career or job you are interested in. Also, include the importance of choosing a career that matches your interests.

Rubric
Full Credit  Student has answered all 10 questions using complete sentences. Students has wrote at least two paragraphs using complete sentences. The paragraphs contain information from the 10 questions along with their explanation if they agree or disagree with the profiler. Also, the student has stated the importance of choosing a career based on their interests. 
Partial Credit Students has answered the 10 questions. Student has wrote at least two paragraphs. The paragraphs do not contain information from the 10 questions. The student stated that he or she agrees or disagrees with the profiler but does not explain why or why not. The student explains the importance of choosing a career based on interests. 
Little Credit  Student has not answered all 10 questions. Student has not wrote at least two paragraphs and does not mention information from the questions. The student does not mention if he or she agrees with the profiler and does not explain why or why not.  The student does not mention the importance of choosing a career based on your interests. 

 

Conclusion

Choosing a career can be a difficult process. Interests profilers, like the one used today can be helpful in helping you decide what your interests are. Hopefully this activity has given you some insight about your interests to help make the process of deciding on a career a little easier. Or maybe this assignment has given you some new options that you never thought of and has sparked a new interests in a particular career. The job you chose for this career does not have to be the one you stick with for the rest of you life. As we grow and experience new situations our interests may change which could lead to a change in careers. And change is okay.
