Introduction
Hello fourth and fifth graders! I am looking for writers for my poetry collection book. I am searching for the best of the best. I want a variety of poems. I want poems that are funny, serious, rhyming and any other style of poems that you can find or write. Are you creative, thoughtful, shy, friendly, funny, athletic or non-athletic? If you are in fourth or fifth grade, I need your help to create a poetry book master piece!

Task
By the time you are done with the process of researching and writing, you will have helped to create a poetry book with a collection of amazing poems.

Process
Part 1: Example Poetry
1. Use the following links to look for examples of differnt kinds of poetry. Read through several poems on each of the sites listed. Choose 1 poem you like the best. I dentify the style of the poem (i.e. Haiku, Free Verse, Rhyming, Etc.). Copy the poem onto your poetry pages. Don't forget to add the author of the poem you chose. If there is no author listed, write "Author Unknown".
2. Write 1-2 sentences explaining why you chose the poem and write down the style of the poem you chose.
Part 2: Practice and Then Write Your Own Poem
1. It is time for you to practice writing your own poem. Click on the link below to use the "Poetry Idea Engine" to activate your imagination and practice writing poems. Choose any or all of the four poem styles to practice writing poetry.
2. Now that you have practice writing poetry on the computer, you will use the paper provided to write a short poem.You may choose the style of poem to write. Make sure you write down the style of poem you chose to write. If time allows, you may work on illustrating your poem.
