Welcome to the World

Introduction

Hello Sophomores,

Today you will explore regions around the world in order to gain an understanding and appreciation of the various cultures and peoples that exist on this planet we call home.

The regions are:

  • North America
  • Latin America

  • Europe
  • Asia
  • The Middle East
  • Africa
  • Australia and New Zealand

Assigned Areas:

  • Landscape
  • Food
  • Music

  • Language

Happy exploring. I hope that you enjoy learning about the other people with whom we share this beautiful world!

Task

Step 1: You will be assigned a region.

Step 2: Use the relevant links to explore your assigned region and focus. Complete the notes sheet as you are working.

Questions for the Notes Sheet:

  2. What is the major geographical quality associated with your region (deserts, beaches, mountains etc.)?
  3. What is the cuisine like in your region? What are two of the most famous dishes?
  4. List at least three famous musicians and note the genre of music for which they are famous.
  5. What are some of the major religions practiced in your region?
  6. What is the current political system in your region?
  7. What languages do the people who reside in your region speak?
  8. What are some famous idioms from your region?

Step 3: Create an advertisement for a tourism website that you would use to inform others about your region and encourage them to visit.  Your ad may be in the form of a PowerPoint presentation with at least 4 slides or a hand-created flyer that you will then upload.
