Zombie Apocalypse part I: Symptoms and possible cures

The world as we know it is about to change! The Center for disease control in Washington, DC has been flooded with calls that a dangerous virus has been spreading throughout the United States.  Citizen have reported sighting of what they call “Zombies” roaming the streets. The hospitals around the country have been overrun with patients complaining of headache, muscle aches and slurred speech. In some cases patients are experiencing lesions or open wounds that will not heal and uncontrolled motor skills. The CDC is calling this a national emergency and is in the process of gathering their best scientist to find a cause and a cure for this outbreak.

Task

Task:

You are a Scientist working with the CDC to find a cure for the “Zombie outbreak”.  You and your team have been quarantined to the facilities in Washington DC. You and your team must research diseases that may be the cause of this strange condition and provide a diagnoses and possible cure to stop the spread of the outbreak.

You will be put into pairs or groups of three and be assigned two or three diseases to research. Each group will be responsible for filling out the Medical diagnostic and treatment plan. Then, the teams will present their information and collaborate on a possible cure and a plan to stop the spread of the infection.

 

Our mission is to use compassion and ethical treatment to ensure the safety of all beings. No use of violence or any killing will be admissible in the plan for treatment or control of the infection.

  1. Once all groups have assembled their information, they will present the information to the class. The other groups will fill in the Medical diagnostic and treatment Plans for each of the conditions discussed.
  2. Pair or groups will then, discuss options for treatment and a plan to prevent the spread of “Zombism”. Fill out Plan to stop the spread form. You will need to copy and paste the document to a word or pages document.
  3. Each team will create a Public Service announcement to highlight your findings and describing how you plan to stop the spread of the disease. Video announcements may be filmed on your IPads and uploaded to the Schoology assignment.

Wow! You have just saved the world. You and your team of scientist have found a way to stop the spread of Zombism. But there is still a risk! Zombies are still out there. Be careful!
