WWII Introduction

Introduction

The intended use of this Webquest is for anyone who stumbles across it in their searches.  It is, I believe, a valuable learning tool for students and a way to get them to take responsibility for their own learning.  This keeps us from being the sage on the stage and enables us to be the facilitator.  So, teachers, feel free to use this lesson in your classes and I hope your students enjoy this short, yet easy exercise into the introduction of WWII.

Task

WWII has multiple theaters of operation and different starting points. What this webquest will explore, rather what you will be exploring are the beginning points of WWII and those differences.

Process

You are a high school history teacher and realize that the students in your class have little to no understanding of the beginnings of WWII.  Your goal is to select one of the answer the questions below, to so you can explain its origins, significance, and relevance to our society.  You will use the resource section of the webquest to answer the following questions.  The answers will help you blend in details about the Bill of Rights from the general to the specific.

* How did Hitler come to power?

* What was the Anschluss?

* What was the signifficance of the invasion of Czecholovakia and Poland?

* What was appeasement and why did it cause an issue for the allies?

* What was the significance of the invasion of Pearl Harbor

* Give a small summary of: the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, the Doolittle raid, and the Battle of the Coral Sea

* Who were the Axis and Allied Powers?

Write the answers down to these qustions and turn them into to me at the end of class for a grade.  All Web sources are under the Credits tab.
