Who's Who In Australian Parliament?

Introduction

There are alot of people in Parliament and alot of titles to keep track of. You've heard of the Prime Minister and the Governor General, but who are they and what are their jobs?

Task

Your Task:

    • Working in teams you will use the internet to find out who are the people who represent us in the three tiers of Australian Government.
    • Read the questions carefully and follow the links to relevant webpages, to find the answer the question.
    • You must put the answers into your own words.

  2. What are the names of the Houses of Parliament?
  3. There are four main Political parties in Australian politics; name them.
  4. Who is the Governor General of Australia?
  5. Who is the Prime Minister of Australia, and when were they first elected to that position?
  6. Since Federation who was the first Prime Minister and in what year was he first elected?
  7. In the Federal House of Representatives who is the "Speaker"
  8. What is the Speakers role?
  9. Who is the Leader of the Opposition?
  10. Who is the Deputy Prime Minister and name the political party they represent.
  11. Who is the Treasurer of Australia?
  12. Who is the member of State parliament who represents your electorate?
  13. In Federal Parliament who is the President of the Senate?                                            
  14. Who is the Leader of the Government in the Senate?                                                    
  15. The Prime Minister is the leader of federal parliament, what are the title's for the leaders of State and local goverment? 
  16. Who is the Minister for foreign affairs?

Evaluation

Once you have finished, pair with another group to compare and check answers, print a copy of your final work and paste it into your Government Journals.
