Who Started the American Revolution? A Webquest

Introduction

Welcome revolutionary lawyers!  Today, you will be making a judgement on who was at fault for causing the American Revolution.  Through many acts and decisions by both the English Parliament and the American Colonies, war broke out.  Through this journey you will learn about how the causes and effects of various actions provoked both sides into bloody battles.  The information you will research will be used in your case to decide which side was at fault for causing this mess.  Your decision will have to be equitable and evidence based.

Task

Your job is to make a judgement on who was at fault for causing the American Revolution.  As a group, you will research all the causes and effects that led to the war.  You will gather information about the different acts, taxes, laws, and rebellions that led to the Revolution.  After answering the questions given in class, you will create a graphic organizer that shares your group's decision based on your evidence.

In your graphic organizer you will discuss each event and decide who was at fault in each situation based on the evidence you discovered.  You must include all events from your research in your graphic organizer.  Groups will need to decide on jobs for each member, complete an assignment timeline for completion of organizer, and complete a Popplet for the presentation.

Process

Process:

1.  Your team will choose job cards given to the team.  This will be your responsibility throughout the project and what your team members will grade you on at the completion of the project.

2.  Discuss how you will plan the project based on completing the Timeline of Assignments as a whole group.  Each member must have a say and the timeline must be approved by the teacher before beginning research.

3.  Teams will research the questions on the question sheet using ipads and textbooks.  Once you have all information for each event, discuss as a group based on the evidence your decision of who was at fault for each event.

Use the following link to find webpages designated for each event and group of questions.

4.  Create a pencil and paper rough draft of your Popplet.  Popplet should be designed with your final decision in the middle with each event surrounding. Design should be easy to follow with each event in logical order.  Follow the rubric to determine the most effective way to present your findings!!

Rough draft must be teacher approved before beginning on your final presentation.

5. Create your Popplet.  Be Creative!  Have Fun!

6. Revise and edit your Popplet.  Follow the rubric to double check you have all components and required pieces.

7.  You will present your findings and decision during a gallery walk in class.  Be prepared to share your Popplet with the class.
