What Planet Do You Want To Live On?

Introduction

OH NO EARTH IS DOOMED!!!

Earth has become completley polluted and is in it's final days! Humans are not going to be able to live here anymore! Nobody knows what to do because this is where we live, luckily your class has been chosen to help find a new place for the humn race to move to and live on. It is now time to pack up your things hurry off of Earth! It's up to YOU to help save the humn race! We need a team of five people to help figure out where everyone is going to go.

What are we suppose to do?

What planet do we move to and start your new life on?

Task

WOW CONGRATS! YOUR CLASS WAS CHOSEN TO RESEARCH AND FIND OUT WHERE ALL HUMANS SHOULD MOVE TO NOW THAT EARTH IS NOT GOING TO BE AN OPTION ANYMORE!

GOAL: As a group or researchers students are going to explore every planet in depth in order to find the perfect planet in which they think that everyone from earth can move to and start a new life. Each student in the group will have their own jobs to make this easier for everyone and all jobs are getting done

The Researcher: This person is in charge of all research, they have to keep track of what planet they are researching, how much research they have, if they have enough research, and what they need to research.

The Reporter: This person is incharge of reporting to the class what they have found when asked, in the end explaining their groups findings and final destination.

The Recorder: This person is in charge of recording all information, keeping track of what research they have found, and putting it all together.

The Boss: This person is in charge of keeping everybody on task, making sure everybody is doing what they are suppose to do, making sure the corect information is found and research is done.

The Crafter: This person is in charge of putting everything together, having all the right information, with the help of others making sure the final model and information is correctly put together and presentable.

Process

Step One: Out of the 7 other planets left in the solar system research some information on all of them and find the two planets that you life the most.

The Researcher: What information can you find on these planets

The Reporter: What can you talk to other groups about the information they have found

The Recorder: What can you take from the research that was found that you think is important

The Boss: What information are you missing, what else can you be looking for, can you narrow your planets down?

The Creator: What solid information do you have from your group that can be put in to your final presentation?

Step Two: Once you have narrowed it down to two of your favorite planets, find some more information on them. compare and contrast them. What is the positives of each planet, what are the negatives, why are these planets in your top two planets to live on. I want you to create two mini posters with information on these planets.

The Researcher: Make sure you have enough information about all planets and you are able to pick your two favorite planets.

The Recorder: Make sure you have thr correct information on the planets you want to narrow it down to

The Boss: Make the final decision (including your groupmates) on the two planets you have narrowed it down to

Step Three: Pick your final destination! Create a model! Now that you have some more information on the planets that you love, create a model of the planet, use any materials you want. You can make a model of what the planet looks like, or you can make a model of what it would look like to live on the planet!

The Creator: Make sure you know what you want to do for your model and have the information you need to create that.

The Reporter: Take the information you have and talk amongst other groups

The Boss: Make sure this is the final destination you want

Step Four:Now its time to put it all together.  What planet do you want to live on? Why did you pick this specific planet? What is your new life going to be like on your new planet? Why should you create a new place to live here.

The Creator: This is where you are important, its time to show the group what you got.

The recorder/ The researcher: Work together to make sure you have all the information you want on your planet.

The Boss: Make sure everyone is on task, you have all the right information, and you are ready to go.

Step Five: Share with your classmates, explain to them where you are going to live, why you are going to live there, and show them what it is going to look like! Be prepared and answer any and all questions about your new home.

The reporter: Its your time to shine and show the class waht you have put together on where you are going to move all humans to

This webquest is designed for students in te upper elementary grades, probably like fifth grade at the most. This involves many different steps, looking at the webquest, researching all of the planets then narrowing it down to two different planets. Once they have decided that they have to go in to depth and research more about the two plantes, creating a presentation, and a model. Its a lot of work that takes some time but it involves a lot of research and creating in order to show the class.

NGSS:

MS-ETS1 : Test two different models of the same proposed object, tool, or process to determine which better meets criteria for success.
