Week 7 - Communicable and Chronic Diseases.

Introduction

Welcome Grade 6 Students,

Today you will be learning about Communicable and Chronic Diseases.

What is a C & C disease you ask?

Well, basically, it is any disease or illness. They can be passed from person to person (eg. chickenpox) or they can be acquired through poor diet and lifestyle choices (eg. smoking may lead to lung cancer.)

Today you're going to explore and learn about some C & C diseases.

Task

Your Task!

Today, your task is to research into some C & C diseases without using Google or Wikipedia.

This is called a webquest.

You will be provided with a list of great websites with plenty of information to research C & C diseases.

Using these websites you need to research at least 3 C & C diseases. You will be provided with a list of diseases, you can research your own if you like.

You are required to present your research in your own words.

You can present you research in a Word document, Powerpoint, or any other way you deem appropriate.

You need to explain

-what each disease is

-how you catch each disease

-what the symptoms are

-possible treatment

-prevention

Process

Here is a list of C & C diseases you can research:

chicken pox, hepatitis a or b or c, influenza or the flu, stroke, heart disease, head lice, cancer, diabetes, ringworm, asthma, or any other disease you see as appropriate.
