Walking Around the World

Introduction

Here students will learn about how different cultures around the world affect the way the people of that culture dresses. Students will take a step in other peoples shoes. 

Task

Students will trace their feet, and use their traced toes to represent 12 different cultures around the world and their appreciate dress wear.

Time: 60 mins

Walking the World Activity

Process

Steps:

1. Give each student 1 large piece of white construction paper.

2. Instruct the students to remove their shoes and shocks, and trace the bottom of both of their feet on the white construction paper. Make sure to instruct the students to trace around their toes also.

3. Once the students finish tracing their feet, have them choose 12 different cultures that they want to learn more about.

4. Instruct the students to use their laptops and computers to do their research, and make sure to inform the students to also pull up images of common dress wear of each different culture.

5. Teacher should begin passing out color pencils, crayons and markers, so that the students can use them to color their different cultures in on their construction paper.

6. Once students are done with their research have them dedicated each toe on their paper to one different culture, and instruct the students to draw a face and appropriate dress wear for each culture on the dedicated culture toe.

7. Once all the students are done with activity, have each students share their drawing with the class. 

Evaluation

Teacher will listen to all the students examples of cultures, and stamp each finished artwork once shared with the class and turned in.
