United Nations

Introduction

By Aline Matuck

Founded after the end of the Second World War, the United Nations is an international organization committed to maintaining international peace and security.

The UN Headquarters

Every day the UN works to tackle global challenges and deliver results for those most in need.  Giving life-saving support to populations hit by humanitarian crises, helping build and keep the peace in conflict-ridden areas, supporting governments and their citizens to advance development and fight poverty, and promoting human rights worldwide are the core pillars of the work of the United Nations and the mandates it receives from its Member States.

Task

Students will write a summary about the United Nations video. They will also choose a country, member of United Nations, to do a cultural research and present it to the class.

After learning the history of the United Nations on the website, students will take an online quiz and create a word map with all the new vocabulary.

Process

Step 1:

Students must watch a video about the United Nations Organizations as a warm up

and individually write a summary about it using Padlet:

Step 2:

In groups of 5, the students should choose a country, member of United Nations, and do a cultural research using Power Point and present it to the class.

Step 3:

Students will visit the UN website: http://www.un.org/en/about-un/index.html  to learn about its history. Then, all class will play an online game (quiz) as a review of the content:  https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/20158417-33b4-4241-bd29-671709dec4b4. PIN 275862

Step 4:

Students will create a word map using Wordle ( http://www.wordle.net/) with all the new vocabulary learned.
