Introduction
¡Buen provecho! You are a chef planning on opening a restaurant in a Spanish speaking country! It’s up to you to start by designing a menu with all your recipes for your restaurant. But of course, these recipes need to be authentic to your country! Where will your restaurant be located? And what kind of food should I be expecting to eat when I visit there?
Task
Choose a country from the list where you can open up your own restaurant. You will name your restaurant and make sure it represents the country’s culture and serves authentic food. You have to construct your menu with at least 3 appetizers, 7 entrees, 4 desserts, and 4 drinks. Each item on your menu should include a short description of what’s in the dish, the price in the country’s currency, and a rough estimate for a calorie count. The menu should look professional and pleasing to the eye.
Along with your menu, do research on three different items from your menu from different categories on your menu (appetizers, entrees, desserts, drinks). Find a good recipe for each of them that you would be able to make yourself. You will be teaching us how to make one of these recipes in class at a later date. These three recipes should be presented in a Word Document.
List of countries:
Costa Rica
El Salvador
Guatemala
Honduras
Mexico
Nicaragua
Panama
Argentina
Bolivia
Chile
Colombia
Ecuador
Paraguay
Peru
Uruguay
Venezuela
Spain
Process
1. Choose a country from the list. Don’t worry if you have the same country as someone else; but you shouldn’t all choose the same three. Explore your options and learn about a country you know nothing about!
2. Look up dishes on the Internet and research common table manners and customs in your country. This could include the times your restaurant is open (Generally speaking Latinos eat later in the night) or anything else you can find.
3. Think of a clever restaurant name that matches your country’s culture.
4. Create a menu of appetizers, entrees, desserts, and drinks with pictures and descriptions. On your menu you should also include the hours it is open, any food allergy or raw meat warnings, and any specials you would like to offer. Remember, this country is in Latin America/Spain where they speak SPANISH so the menu should be in SPANISH!!!
5. Choose 3 items from your menu and look up the recipes online. Put your recipes onto a Word Document. These recipes should be relatively easy to make and possible for you to present in class. Any measurement that is not presented in the metric system needs to be converted.
