What is a WebQuest?

A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented lesson format in which most or all the information that learners work with comes from the web. 

What is this webquest about?

You work at the reception of the Pembury hotel in London. You've just received an e-mail with an enquiry regarding the hotel and surroundings. It is your task to answer the e-mail and to convince this potential customer to book a room in your hotel.

What is expected from you?

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to: 

- Read a formal e-mail

- Search for detailed information on a hotel website

- Answer a formal e-mail

- Advise tourists about intesting tourist attractions in London 

- Learn and practice new vocabulary related to travelling. 

Process

In order to complete this webquest, follow these instructions: 

  1. Download the e-mail and read it
    • If you don't understand some of the vocabulary, look it up on the internet
    • Highlight the questions/ important parts of the e-mail
  2. Go to this hotel website 
    • Look up the information you need to answer the e-mail
  3. Go to this site about the touristic attractions of London 
    • Select a few touristic attractions you want to suggest to the customer. 
    • You should be able to explain and justify your choice. 
  4. Write an e-mail in which you answer all the questions
    • Your e-mail should be formal. If you don't know how to get started, take a look at this website
    • Mind the spelling and grammar. 
  5. Reread your e-mail and check for errors
  6. Take a look at the rubric on the "Evaluation" page to see how you've done
