Introduction
Hello everyone! In our class on Monday, we have already talked on typical food in the UK and in the US. We for instance saw how Gordon Ramsey and his daughter prepared an appealing, mouth-watering English breakfast. Today, we'll continue our gastronomic adventure through this Webquest. We'll look again at some British dishes, more specifically dishes which are difficult to distinguish from each other. For America, our focus today will be on Thanksgiving, the Americans' nearly mythical holiday.

Task
If everything went well, you should now have received a hand-out with assignments and exercises. You're now properly set to begin this webquest! In a first stage, you will learn about some typical British dishes which very much look alike, but aren't quite the same, though. This will help you get a better view on the UK's kitchen. After that, we'll turn our eye across the Atlantic Ocean towards America. The focus will be on the USA's most famous holiday: Thanksgiving. First, you'll have to look up some information on the tradition of the holiday. A second series of exercises will be about the specific dishes which Americans typically eat on Thanksgiving. To summarise this webquest, you'll be asked to complete a short quiz on today's topic.
Process
Complete the following tasks in the order in which they are given:
1) You'll receive a hand-out on 'Troublesome English dishes'. Try to fill it in as accurately as possible. You have the entire internet at your disposal (you can use whatever search engine you like). Give a description of the difference between the dishes which are mentioned, and enumerate their (primary) ingredients.
2) The second assignment on the hand-out is one on Thanksgiving. First read the questions about the history of Thanksgiving. Then try to answer them, using the website http://www.history.com/topics/thanksgiving/history-of-thanksgiving. Watch the video clip first (the clip should normally start by itself). The fragment will give you a brief introduction to Thanksgiving's traditions. Next, look into the text underneath the video to find the answers which weren't mentioned in the clip. DON'T COPY FRAGMENTS FROM THE TEXT LITERALLY, try to come up with a description of your own.
3) To tackle the questions from Thanksgiving dinner, visit the website http://www.foodnetwork.com/thanksgiving.html?vty=thanksgiving, where you can find hundreds of Thanksgiving recipes. Now try to answer the questions. If you would not know some of the translations for exercise 1b, use an online dictionary to find them.
4) Raise your hand and hand in your hand-out (That's lots of hands!)
5) Go to http://www.nearpod.com/. Look at the blackboard to find the code which you'll need to enter the quiz. Enter the code in the bar 'join session' at the top of the page. Give up your name first. Now, you should be lead to a short quiz on what you've just learned. Complete the quiz. When you've finished, you can enjoy yourselves by trying to draw the picture of a turkey as accurately as possible. A couple of minutes before the end of the lesson, I will write another code on the blackboard, which you can use to fill in a short poll in which you can express your opinion on today's webquest.
6) Don't forget to pick up a correction sheet of the hand-out when you leave the class!
Evaluation
The evaluation of your work depends on two aspects:
- the hand-out which you were given. Did you manage to find all of the information required?
- the quiz which you have completed at the end of the session.

Conclusion
I hope you'll learn something about the culinary traditions in the UK and the US, which are often quite different from ours. Feel free to ask questions when something seems unclear.
