Softball End of Unit Web Quest

Introduction

Students,

I am sure you are very pleased that there is no school due to the mass amounts of snow that is accumulating on the ground as we speak. Unfortunatley, we must keep moving foward as a class even though we are not at school. In previous class we have been finishing up our softball unit and now will use the things we have learned and apply them to this lesson.

Good Luck,

Coach Thackeray

Task

You are a high school softball/ baseball coach for the 2016 season. Part of being a coach requires you having a plan and practicing to help your athletes to improve each day. Your task is to create a one week practice schedule for your team. You will need to decide on goals, objectives, specific time management, drills, and skills you want to cover throughout the week. Each practice schedule should include daily objectives, introduction, warm up, skills and drills, and a wrap up in that order. As a coach designing your practice plans is crucial in being organized and having a plan for what you want to accomplish with your team. This ensures less standing around and more productivity in each practice. Good luck coaches. SAMPLE PRACTICE PLANS WILL BE PROVIDED for your benefit. When we return from the storm we will take 10 minutes of the class period to teach a skill or drill to the class that you as coaches have implemented into your practice plans. However you will only be receiving a grade for your practice plans. The mini teaching lesson will purely be graded on participation. If you have further questions or expectations are unclear please email me at tandythackeray@hotmail.com. Good Luck and HAPPY SNOW DAY. This assignment is due upon your return back to class.  Be sure to review your class handouts from previous lessons.

Process

As you create this one week practice plan consider your handouts and the different lessons we have been able to cover throughout this unit; throwing and catching, fielding, hitting, game strategy etc. To help this process of creation move faster I suggest you brainstorm on paper first all of the drills and skills that we have covered in class.

>Then after you have written down what we have used in class, then I would like you to go to youtube.com and type in either "softball practice drills" https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNhkRkcs75t29Iq_GsJUa_Mw5ufxoZCbP or "baseball practice drills" https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNhkRkcs75t3FAN_PCUyOqkwXNYasakq1 (the links above are playlists with softball or baseball practice drills) but feel free to explore further on youtube.

After you have brainstormed I would like you guys to type up some useful information for your class mates and paste them to the class padlet link provided here;

Conclusion

 The purpose in creating this webquest is to help you apply the skills of hitting, fielding, throwing catching, game strategy and other important aspects of the game of softball or baseball that we have been learning and implementing throughout our classtimes. Standard 2- Standard 2 - The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance and Standard 4- The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others. These standards will be used in this lesson and will show me you can apply these things.

 By being able to successfully complete this assignment you will show me that you understand what we have learned throughout the softball unit and also shows me that you can design and create a practice plan confidently. Our goal is to prepare you to become professional recreators and being able to plan out and cover different skills and drills can make you a successful recreator.

This assignment should be completed upon your return to class.
