Introduction

Over the past few weeks, we have learned about the five regions of Virginia, where they are located, and some characteristics that are special to each region. During the next week, we will work on a project to bring our learning to life. You will pretend you are an adult and you work at the Virginia Department of Tourism. There has been data that shows that tourism has declined in all areas of the state over the last two years. After giving surveys to potential tourists, we have learned that potential visitors to our state do not know about the different regions of Virginia, their characteristics, or what types of activities they could do if they visited each region.
Task
Your task is to design an inviting brochure that identifies each region and its location, explains the characteristics of each region, and describes activities visitors might enjoy in each region.
Process
The front of the brochure should have introductory information, a title, and should be visually appealing. The inside should be carefully organized to include headings and paragraphs that contain information pertaining to each region and photos/illustrations that help “sell” each region. The final page of the brochure should include a conclusion paragraph and anything else you think would add to the appeal of visiting our state. Any pictures you include should also include a caption to explain the picture.
You will need to go through the writing process by planning how you want to set up your brochure and what information you want to include. You will be given a web/graphic organizer to help you get started. After planning, you will create a “rough draft” that you will then revise and edit after looking at the rubric that I will use to grade your project. A final product will then be created using paper, cardstock, markers, etc.

Evaluation
You will receive two grades for this project: a writing grade and a history grade. Please look over the two rubrics that should help guide you as you create the brochure.

Conclusion
I hope this helps you review the regions of Virginia!
