Introduction
Congratulations! You are now on a journey through the web to find out more information about your state.
ESSENTIAL QUESTION YOU ARE TO ANSWER:
What interesting places are there to visit in (name your state), and what itinerary should I follow and how many days will I need to plan to visit 4 of them.
Task
Your job is to create an itinerary for you and your family, or anyone interested in visiting your state. Choose the four most interesting places you have found and plan a day by day trip with enough time to visit all four!
Let the traveling begin!
Process
First visit:
www.worldatlas.com, and search for your state.
Here you will find much information about your state. Use your handout to record your findings. You will be looking for landforms, intersting facts, famous people, cities, landmarks, and other interesting places about your state.
Next, use:
Use the calculator to find out how long it will take to travel by plane from your home to the state you are researching. Then use the calculator to find out how long it will take to travel to each place of interest.
Finally, create a day by day itinerary using the information you have found at the two websites above. Be sure you allow enough time to travel and visit the highlights of each destination!
Enjoy your journey!

This webquest will be a great tool for my students to use when they are researching their states at the end of next school year. This year, they needed my assistance to surf through the web, but next year I hope this will give them direction and motivation to really get to know their state.
At the end of the unit, we created dough landform maps in donated pizza boxes and painted them. The students included a landform key designating colors for certain areas of their state, and marked highlighted places with flagged toothpicks. They loved it!
I think an additional activity could be for them to design a travel brochure for the state's Visitor's Bureau.
I hope you find some or all of this activity helpful in your classroom!
