Reading Voyage

Introduction

You have been invited to join me on a reading voyage. Along this voyage, you will learn about basic reading strategies. You will go to different sites to learn more about these strategies. Enjoy your trip!

Standard: 13.3 Read and respond according to task and purpose to become self-directed, critical readers and thinkers!

Level: 4th grade ELA

Task

You will split into groups of 3-4 people. In your group you will choose from the following topics to research: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. All of these topics support reading instruction. There will be links to each topic to help you along your voyage. Once you have finished your research, you will write a paragraph of 5-6 sentences about the topic that your group researched. You will need to answer the questions that are given with each topic in your paragraph. First, watch this short video on how to become an excellant reader!

Evaluation

Each group will need to write one paragraph of 5-6 sentences and answer the questions that were given based on their topic. Each student in each group needs to write atleast one of the sentences in the paragraph. Your answers will be graded based on the correctness and completion of the paragraph with the answers to the questions. You only need to answer the questions that corresponds to your group topic that you chose.

Conclusion

After successfully completing this assignment, you will become more knowledgable on how to become a better reader.
