Does Gracie keep running or does she come home? Let's read to find out!

Task

Today you all are going to be detectives! You have to put your thinking caps on! You all will need a pencil and paper to jot down the clues or key details you find while listening to the story. You also need to write down what the mystery is mostly about so that your case makes sense. Lastly you'll need to be able to visualize what Gracie looks like in your mind so you can tell strangers what she looks like! So grad your decive tools and let's start searching!

Process

Process

First, I want you my detectives to follow along with my reading. If you find a clue or key detail, raise your hand so we can discuss it and write it down!

Next, I want you all to be searching for the main idea of this story what it's mostly about! Raise your hand when you find that missing clue!

Lastly, get a really close and good look of Gracie and the others who chase her so that if you are asked what she looks like or need to tel someone you'll have it in your mind just like good detectives do!

Once we finish our search we are going to watch a secret video on what main ideas are and how to find one in every story. A good detective is always learning more about their work when they can! We will then go back to our desks where we work hard all night long to work on a worksheet to write down our final thoughts on what happened to Gracie!

I will be calling a few of you up at a time to show your work on the Elmo to the other classmates to prove that all of hard work has paid off! This way we can prove to others that we know how to find key details and the main idea!

So what have we learned today?

  • We learned what a key detail is: an important part of the story that adds excitement to it.
  • We learned what a main idea is: what the story is mostly about.
  • We also learned how to visualize: creating a picture in our minds as to what we think something, someone, or what a place looks like to us.So what other things are important to make a story really good?
