Introduction
There is 1 1/2 acres of land destroyed every second of everyday in the rainforest. If things do not change it is estimated that in 50 years all rainforest will be gone.
Luckily we can help!
Task
The six major rainforest are:
Olympic, Central America, amazon, Southeast Asia, Congo river basin, and Madagascar
Even though the rainforest only covers about 6% of the earth it is home to nearly 30 million plants and species.
Endangered Sumatran tigers, pygmy elephants, java rhinoceros and orangutans being a few of them.
Many plants have been uprooted and moved but some such as the Brazil nut tree will only survive in the rainforest.
The tropical rainforest has been nicknamed the world’s largest pharmacy because over 25% of the world’s natural medicines have come from them. Including 70% of the anticancer plants and Calanolide A which helps treat HIV.
Process
I want you all to create your own rainforest environment project.
Using things like a shoe box or tissue box as your habitat.
Add things like trees and animals to make your jungle.
After you all have finished we will display them in the class room and you can take turns telling me what you have learnt while doing your project.
Evaluation
In order to get a good grade you need to have
- a well decorated scenery for your habitat
- animals that would be found in the rainforest ( can be bought or made figures )
- talk to your parents get them to help you look up facts about the rainforest
- be prepared to come to class and discuss what you have learned
Conclusion
The rainforest is an endangered environment and by learning about it and telling others we can help by making everyone aware of the issue.
This project is to help kids even at a young age learn about the rainforest and what kind of life lives there.
