Introduction
Introduction:
Who is This?
Introduction video to how science and racing and tires connect.

To the students,
Your group is a professional race car team. The big race is this weekend and you have to make key decisions that will help lead your team to victory using science.
Task
Task: There are a handful of questions the students will have to decide.
- Why did they assignment certain task to certain students. I.E. why is one student picked to be the driver and the other the radio man? How did they come to those conclusions?
- What scientific data is relevant to the tire decision for the race? I.E. weather patterns, will it rain. What is the difference between a rain tire and a slick? Why does a car hydroplane when the ground is wet? How using this data will influence their decision? How to best present the data.
- Group Presentation on what the find out. The group will have to give a presentation on why they choose what tire they choose and why they choose what job for each member of the group. During the group presentation every student is expected to be involved.
- The students watching a group presentation will have to do evaluations of their peers.
- Each student will write an essay on the project.
Process
Process & Resources:
The first process will be to assign the task to each group member. The group will be groups of 4-5, one student will be the driver, one will be the radio spotter, one or two will be the pit crew, and one will be the crew chief. Why did they choose their roles, what information was used from the web quest?
Second the students will do the necessary scientific research to find out about the key concepts and how to relate them to the decision of which tire to run.

Putting it all together in the group presentation.
A group presentation of 5-8 minutes is to be done at the end of the group portion of this assignment.
Lastly each student will write a 2-3 page esaay on the project. The essay will discuss the experience, such as what they learned about the material and their classmates. The essay will also touch on the subject material and link it to nature by asnwering this question.
Provide an example of Tire Selection in Nature.

Conclusion
Conclusion:
Through this assignment my goal is twofold. First I expect the students to be able to manage their groups properly in making rational decisions for how to divide the group up. For example, so why is one student the driver and another the radio man. Part two is to be able to understand the scientific data, such as why a car hydroplanes in rain and link this data and concepts to why a particular tire should be chosen. Lastly the students will practice putting their findings into a exciting presentation format containing all this information.
•At the end of this WebQuest the students show have basic understanding of the scientific material being discussed. The students will have improved their group interaction skills as well as presentation skills. The WebQuest will provide a small journey into a real world scenario for the students to engage in.
