Introduction

Everyone knows that the price of a hamburger and a coke is the same price of a coke and a hamburger. But did you know that this example illustrates the commutative property of addition? The properties of the real numbers are commonly used by anyone who performs the operations of arithmetic. In algebra we must have a thorough understanding of these properties.
