Pneumococcal disease (Streptococcus pneumoniae) can vary in severity from mild to serve symptoms.
Pneumococcal disease is a bacterial infection, and can cause many illnesses ranging from ear and sinus infections to meningitis. Child and adults can be vaccinated to prevent pneumococcal disease.
Pneumococcal disease can be deadly. Early detection is vital.
Everyone can contract this disease however young children and adults with weaker immune systems can be at a greater risk of contracting the disease.
Transmission
Pneumococcal bacteria spreads from person-to-person by direct contact by saliva or mucus.
Task
This task needs to be completed in 4 weeks and available to present in the staff meeting. We will be using this letter to distribute to parents throughout the school to create awareness of this disease.
You will need to investigate the pneumococcal disease and create a visually appealing information sheet for parents on what measures to take if their child contracts the pneumococcal disease.

Evaluation
You will present your findings and letter to staff in 4 weeks time.
At this stage we will evaluate as a group, before whole school distrabution.
Conclusion
This will have raised awareness for staff and parents on measures we can all take in preventing and recognising symptoms of this diesease.
