Introduction
What is Photosynthesis??

Do you like to breath fresh air? Eat fresh fruit? Do you like to go to the park and enjoy the beautiful flowers? Hmmmmm, ever wonder how plants get their energy? In this webquest we will embarqe in a journey to finding out how plants create food, transform light energy and clean our air!!!
Task

Together we will sing the Photosynthesis song. After that we will break up into groups of 2 and research what photosynthesis is by veiwing a short video and viewing a powerpoint. When the research is done you will create a foldable version of what you learned about photosynthesis and presnet it in class in 5 minutes.
Process
How to successfully learn about photosynthesis!!!
1. Read and recite the photosynthesis song with your partner.
2. Use the computer and go to the following link to learn about photosynthesis in an interesting way.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9xWCsL-AdU
3. Read the following powerpoint slides
http://www.slideshare.net/MMoiraWhitehouse/photosynthesis-teach
For additional information you can visit the following site:
http://birchie5.weebly.com/photosynthesisfood-chain.html
4. Create a foldable model by following these instructions:
This model begins as a single sheet of copy paper. Fold it in half and cut out a large leaf shape. Very little scrap should be left over, but don’t toss it away! The two leaves are glued together from the petiole towards the tip. Draw in veins and label the upper epidermis. Fold the upper leaf back, so it stands up and away from the lower leaf. Draw the veins on the lower leaf. Using some of the scraps, cut and color a scalloped strip to represent the chloroplasts. This gets glued to the upper leaf, along the inside, right at the fold. Finally, cut out 4 arrows, free-hand or stenciled, label each with the basic steps of photosynthesis, and glue them to the leaf.
5. Present the model in class in five minutes and give me 2 reasons why photosynthesis is important for our survival on Earth
This is how your final product should look!!

Evaluation
You work will be evaluated using the following rubric:
file:///C:/Users/ELIZABETH/Downloads/Your%20Rubric%20-%20Print%20View.html
This meets the following standards:
Identify the major parts of plants, including stem, roots, leaves, and flowers.
Describe structures in plants and their roles in food production, support, water and nutrient transport, and reproduction.
Recognize that plants use energy from the Sun, air, and water to make their own food.
Conclusion
Now that we know what photosynthesis is we can learn to appreciate the greenery around us. We know that plants need sunlight to produce sugar and conert that into energy for food. We also learned that plants inhale carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Boy are we lucky that this process takes place of not we would have to wear space suits all the time!!!
