Introduction
Throughout this webquest you will begin to explore how the process of photogrpahy has evolved over the past 100m years to the point of the digital world that we live in today. You will research, compare, practice and explore how photography has changed over the years, and will even practice capturing your own images. This process is designed to challenge your thinking, expand your knowledge, and allow for you to be creative in your own fashions.
Task
Your task will be to research, share, and collaborate with your classmates in groups of 2 the history and evolution of photography over the past 100 years. With your partner you will then create a PPT containing a brief synopsis of your learning, as well as several pictures that you will take yourself after researching various methods of photographic composition. All of your findings will then be shared with your peers via an in-class presentation.
Process
Step 1:
You will begin by pairing up with your assigned partner and researching using a minimum of 3 different websites the history and evolution of photography and photgraphic processes over the past 100 years. Topics to consider here will range from changes in technology to costs involved, and changes in the purposes of photography.
Step 2:
You will write 4 posts to a threaded discussion in Google classroom sharing your findings, learning from others findings, and collaborating toward your next step. The threaded post lengths shall be as follows:
- 1 MAJOR post- (350-400 words) describing some of the major advances that you found through your research, and describing how those changes have helped shape the photography industry today.
- 1 MEZZO post- (200-250 words) discussing the benefits of today's technology vs. older technologies.
- 2 MINOR posts- (100-150 words) commenting on, and continuing to expound on two of your peers posts. (You will look further into a topic they have discussed, and add to their post.)
Step 3:
You will research and record 5 different composition techniques used in photography today. You will then be required to take at least 2 photos using each of the techniques you find. Save these photos to your drive, as they will be used later in the quest.
Step 4:
You will create a PPT presentation containing 10 slides as follows:
- 1 title slide- both partners name, date, and class period.
- 3 content slides elaborating on your research findings with regards to the evolution of photography. Be creative here, use multiple graphics, create a timeline, etc.
- 5 slides defining/describing your found compostion methods and the images you took with a brief description of how you composed your shots.
- 1 outtakes/references slide- we all know that taking quality photographs doesn't always happen with the first shot. Place a few of your candids on this slide. Also, please be sure to include your references on this slide as well.
Step 5:
You will present your PPT to the class as a group, sharing your findings.
