Introduction

Fashion is ever changing but it all begins with the process of pattern. Pattern makers are one of the most important people in the fashion Industry because they transfer the Designers; thoughts, ideas and sketches into a pattern to produce a garment. With technology rapidly moving, many patternmakers have been able to use new software to replace the manual process of making patterns.
This is designed for Form 4 Secondary school students who are in the area of dressmaking and design.
Each group will be responsible for manipulating a basic bodice into a modern and innovative design.
Darts are responsible for the basic structure of any garment. The most common dart is probably the one often seen at the bustline of women’s blouses. This helps the fabric fit to the woman’s curves, so that the fabric does not look wrinkled or baggy.
Task
Students will break into groups and each group will be required to:-
- Identify the basic manipulation process
- Design a garment to fit a selected celebrity.
- Explain the process of the design
- State why you chose your celebrity
- Explain the aesthetics and trends of your client
- Complete the pattern showing all details for production
The students are required to use all their previous knowledge of basic design, pattern drafting and dart manipulations.
