Colombia is an amazing country located in the northwestern tip of South America.

The capital city of Colombia is Bogotá, the official language is Spanish and the main cities are Medellin, Cali, Bucaramanga, Barranquilla, Cartagena and Santa Marta.

Colombia is the second flower exporter in the world and the 75% of the coffee production is exported.

Objective:

Knowing the Colombian’s culture, folklore, music and gastronomy.

Methodology:

This is a group project that will be done during three virtual sessions where you will be working in a cooperative way. You have to follow WebQuest instructions and work in academic and social learning environment.

Task

Dear student, let's take an amazing trip around Colombian’s culture. Please, have ready your travel suitcase, the map of Colombia, a compass and a computer.

To do this work, you will be using Internet resources (including links to information, pictures, and videos) where you can find interesting evidence about your country.

Do a research on the web looking for more information about Colombian's culture of every natural region and at the end of your marvelous trip, your group will create, design and send through e-mail a PowerPoint document about one of the Natural Regions assigned by your teacher, to a friend from another country, to invite her/him to visit our Colombia’s diversity.

 

 

Process

Session 1:

Use the link below to access to interesting information about your country. Write the answer to the questions and the comments you want in your notebook.

Task 1: Watch Welcome to Colombia's video in the link http://discovercolombia.com/colombia-info/

Task 2: Write the name of some places you identified in the video with a characteristic. Example: Bogotá is the Capital city of Colombia.

Task 3: Read the text information and write the name of the countries that border Colombia.

Session 2:

Task 1: Go to the following page http://www.colombiaemb.org/node/1331 and answer the following questions:

  1. How many indigenous ethnic groups and native languages are there in Colombia?
  2. Name some important fairs and cultural festivals celebrated in Colombia.
  3. Which are the recognized musical styles in Colombia?

Task 2: Visit the following link, http://www.colombia.travel/en, in "where to go" take your assigned region, visit the cities you want and write in your notebook five ideas about things you like in these cities. Example: I like to eat "arepa de huevo" in Cartagena.

Task 3: Go to the recommended page and read the information about your corresponding Colombia's Natural Region. Write a chart with the name of the departments and their corresponding capital cities that are included. http://discovercolombia.com/colombia-info/geographic-regions/

Now, you are ready to prepare the stage of the trip.
