If you choose to accept your mission, continue to the page labeled: TASK

Task
The United States Special Ops Research Team is counting on YOU to research the life cycle of ONE plant or animal to help protect its species! Using your research, your whole troop is responsible for determining if all of the life cycles are exactly the same, or if there are any similarities and differences! To do your report, it is acceptable to work in teams of two!

Your report can be on a poster or powerpoint and must include the following:
1. The name of your plant or animal
2. Pictures of your plant or animal as a baby AND as an adult
3. A model showing the names and stages of it's life cycle
4. Where your plant or animal can be located
5. Is your plant or animal endagered?
6. CREATIVITY!
The page labeled PROCESS willl help explain your steps!
*DON'T FORGET* to use Kathy Schrock's "Website Evalution" for each source that you use!

Process
Let's begin our research!
You and your teammate should now agree and know exactly which plant or animal life cycle you will be researching, but first you must discuss: What is a life cycle? Share what you both know about this question and help each other out!
After sharing what you know about life cycles with your partner, decided if you will be doing a poster OR a powerpoint for your report. These will be shared with the class.

Once you decide, NOW you are ready to research!
- Begin at google.com and enter the name of your plant or animal
- Search for the questions that will be on your report (on the TASK page)
- Put the answers to the questions on your poster or powerpoint
-Use the "Website Evaluation" for EVERY source that you use!
Remember what we have learned and the importance of SMART and SAFE researching!

Evaluation
This will be used to grade your research and report:
4: The student went above and beyond in this section
3: The student did an excellent job in this section
2: The student put forth a great effort in this section
1: The student could have put more effort in this section
0: The student did not complete this section
|
The report identifies ONE plant or animal |
4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 |
| A model shows AND names each stage of its life cycle | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 |
| There is a picture of the plant or animal as a baby AND an adult | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 |
| The student mentions if the plant or animal is endangered | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 |
| Each source is evaluated using Kathy Schrock's "Website Evaluation" | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 |
| The report shows creativity | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 |
Conclusion
THANK YOU TROOPS!
Thanks to you and your research, the United States Special Ops Research Team now knows the many differences between all plant and animal life cycles! Because of you, we now know how to save all of their species!

DON'T FORGET, all life cycles have to begin somewhere, and are a series of orderly and identifiable changes! It's important to remember this when you interact with all living things so that you know how they grow and develop!
Your whole troop did a GREAT job and I will see you next time for our next mission!

Teacher Page
This webquest was created by Allysa D'Amour
The intention of this webquest is to be used at the end of a life processes inquiry unit to summarize a student's knowledge about the life cyles of plants and animals. It can be completed individually, in pairs, and even in groups. If working in pairs or groups, I would suggest having the students research a plant AND animal and compare/contrast.
The Virginia Standards of Learning being met withing this webquest are:
Science: Life Processes: 2.4 Students will investigate and understand that plants and animals undergo a series of orderly changes as they mature and grow.
Key concepts include
a) animal life cycles; and
b) plant life cycles
Computer Technology: Technology Resource Tools: K-2.4 Students will plan and apply strategies for gathering information, using a variety of tools and sources, and reflect on alternate strategies that might lead to greater successes in future projects.
