NATIONAL  TREASURES 

of  

THE  UNITED  STATES  of  AMERICA

YOUR  TASK...

In this assignment, your job will be to find out exactly where these monuments, or national treasures, are located, why they were given the honor of being called a National Monunment, and in what order they were given this honor. 

Here are the National Monuments you will be researching:

• Mount Rushmore
  
• Statue of Liberty
• Lincoln Memorial
  
• Washington Monument
• Jefferson Memorial
  
• World War II Monument

Now that you understand the task, it is time to get to work! This will not be an easy task, but I know you can do it. :) 

1. Choose the National Monument you will go to first.
2. Gather information: Who, What, Where, When, and Why.  What monument is it? Who built it? Where is it located? When was it built? Why was it built?
3. Now look at your information and put the monuments in order by date being made, or named, and then decided which one you feel is most important and why.  
4. Using the information from number 3 that you have gathered on each monumnet, you will construct a project of facts (two to three for each) of your choice about these 6 national treasures. You can do a poster, Powerpoint, or Publisher Project (brochure or believe it or not book, etc.) with the information you researched.  For the monument that you found most important, you can write one paragraph or you can make another small poster telling why it is the most important. The posters will go on display in the classroom. 
5. Use the National Treasures Information Sheet to record your research.
