My Birth Year!

Task

This web quest will help students perform research on the day/year they were born.  They will create a Family Tree, Birth Announcement, Baby Name Comparison Chart, and create a multimedia show to display the results of their research.

Introduction

What do you know about the day/year you were born?

By completing this web quest you will become an "expert" on various events that occurred on the day and during the year that you were born!

Ready...Set...BEGIN!

 

Part 1: All about me!

In Word, write a paragraph about yourself.  Include the following:

  • Full Name
  • Time and Date you were born
  • Where were you born?
  • What city were you born in?
  • What is the earliest memory that you remember?

In Word, create a Family Tree using the SmartArt. Include the following family members:

  • Mother
  • Father
  • Maternal Grandparents
  • Fraternal Grandparents
  • Brothers and Sisters
  • Any other family member that you want to include

Part 2: Baby Names in My Decade

Part 2: Research

Begin the research on the 6 subtopics to include in your show. 

1.) Subtopic: Entertainment   

  • Ideas include:  Music, TV, Movies, Dance, etc...

2.) Subtopic: Technology/Inventions 

  • Ideas include:  Medicine, Technology, any inventions thought of that year, etc...

3.) Subtopic: Local Events (Either ... City, State or United States)

  • Ideas include:  City Mayor, State Governor, President,  Celebrations, Weather events etc...

4.) Subtopic: Sports 

  • Ideas include:  MVP's, Super Bowl, NBA, World Series, Olympics, etc...

5.) Subtopic: Trends

  • Ideas include:  Fashion, Food, Dance, Hair-styles, Jargo, etc...

6.) Subtopic: World Events

  • Ideas include:  World Leaders, World Celebrations, World Disasters, etc...

Remember you need 3 different events for each subtopic.

Part 3: URL's

In your multimedia show, your last slide(s) or clip(s) will include all the internet sites you used to gather your research. 

PART 4: Multimedia Show 

 PowerPoint the smallest it could possibly be is 8 slides.  However I think that could be a little crowded.  So the range is probably at least 8 but hopefully no more than 22 or 24 slides.

I have only worked with Prezi once, last summer.  So I am not sure how long to tell you.  Just make sure it is easy to read and not crowded!

a) Basic information about you (when and where born)

b) A baby picture of you (if possible)

c) Anything else you want to share 

3. Next 6 Slides - Subtopics (You may have more than 6 slides!)

a) Title each slide. The titles are: Entertainment, Technology/Inventions, Local Events, Sports, Trends, World Events

b) Pictures and BRIEF text to describe each of the 3 events for each subtopic.

c)  To avoid having the slides and/or clips too crowded you may need more than one slide and/or clip per subtopic.

3. Last Slide/Clip(S) - URLs

a) Title:  URLs

b) List ALL URLs used  in your research.

c) Yes, you may use Tiny URL to shorten the url's.

a) Submit your finished multimedia show to Google Classroom
