Introduction

Introduction:

Do you sometimes wish you could play a game instead of doing school work? Can you create a game that helps kids with math while having fun? Complete this WebQuest if you are up for the challenge.

The Toy and Game Company is wanting to get ideas for new board games for kids. They decide to go to the "Fun Experts",or kids, to get these ideas. The company also knows the importance of students learning their multiplication facts. So, they decide to have a contest for elementary kids to see who can create the best multiplication game.

You decide to go for the challenge and enter their contest!

Task

Task:

Here is your plan of action to win the contest. It has been a while since you have worked on multiplication, and you feel that you need to brush up on the basic facts. So, you decide you better go to some internet websites to get some practice. Finally, you will make your game to enter in the contest

Process

Process:

Follow these 3 steps to create your game.

Step 1
Do the activities on these websites:

2.http://www.aplusmath.com/games/matho/MultMatho.html

If you have reviewed the multiplication facts and feel confident that you know them, go on to step 2. If don't feel as confident with multiplication as you think you should, go back and practice the activities at the above sites some more.

Step 2
Think of a theme for your game. Will it be one where you are a pirate and must travel the seas to find lost treasure, or will you be trapped in haunted mansion and must avoid the monsters and ghosts? Use your imagination when deciding. You could use ideas from existing games if you like.

Step 3

It is time to be creative and make your game.

1. Brainstorm ideas on what theme you want your game to be, and how you want your game to look.

2. Make a design on scrap paper. You will be designing the game board and the cover.

3. Write out a rough draft of your rules and procedures. Have Mrs. Nunes look over them before you move onto step 4.

4. Write a final copy of your rules on the computer.

5. Make the final game board and the cover.

6. Use the computer to add any other items you may need for your game. This could be game cards, images for your game, or anything else you might need.

7. Put your game all together.

8. Play the game together to make sure you have everything you need!

Conclusion

Conclusion:

After entering your game in the contest, you anxiously wait to hear if you've won the contest. You finally receive a letter in the mail from The Toy and Game Company and tear it open to find out. The contest's results have been announced.                   Read your letter below.

Dear Game Contestant,

Our company wants to thank you for entering our game contest. We had thousands of entries from children all over the world. Your game was selected as one of the best that we received!

However, one of the rules of the contest is that no Toy and Game Company employee or their relatives can win the contest. We understand that one of our employees is your second cousin. Unfortunately, we had to award the grand prize to another contestant.

You have a great idea for a new game and we would like to hear more of your thoughts about how to make learning so much fun for kids. If you are willing to share your ideas, The Toy and Game Company is offering you and your entire family a free trip to our company's headquarters in Florida for two weeks this next summer. Of course, you would have a lot of free time to see the local sights such as our beaches and family theme parks.

If you are interested in learning more about the history of some popular games, there is a lot of interesting information at these sites:

History of Toys Timeline and Hasbro: Mr. Potato Head .

We hope to see hear from you soon and see you in the summer.

Sincerely,

The Toy and Game Company President
