Motocross

Introduction

What is motocross? Motocross is a sport that allows you to go fast! It is a sport that lets you fly through the air on big jumps. It allows you to compete against people, or your friends. It is also good if you love a adrenaline rush. And that is mostly what all motocross is about.

Task

This webquest will help students learn about motocross, while also having some fun. In Activity 1 you will have to learn about the science behind motocross. In Activity 2 you will learn the history about how it all started. In Activity 3 you will do some math and also play a math game to understand motocross more. In Activity 4 you will do some art projects, like designing your own jersey and Dirtbike.

Process

Activity 1

Science

1. How does gravity effect your turning?

Answer:

2. Draw a picture of what could cause an accident using the information of newton's first law in the link.

Activity 2

History

1. What was the first Dirtbike to be raced?

Answer:

2. Create your own motocross win ad, like the one showed in the link.

Drawing:

3. Look through the link, then explain in a paragraph of what you would have changed in motocross back then.

Activity 3

Math

Image result for motocross jump1. Your new objective is to build a new jump. The jump will have to be 48 feet long, you will have to figure out how long the run way would have to be if you have to hit the jump a 40mph. It will then take 6 inches to reach 5 mph on the run way. How long would the run way be to clear the jump?

Answer:

Art

1. Go on this link-http://blog.tshirt-factory.com/free-motocross-bike-vector.html#.Vfp4KPl…, then save the dirtbike template, after that you want to put your own designs on it in paint.

Painting:

3. Go on this link-http://www.chsportswear.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/2011-BMXJ240LS-t…, then as showed on the example, design the jersey on paint.

Evaluation

A. For Science, you will be graded as shown below:

1. If you have at least 2-3 sentences explaining how it effects your turning-10 points.

2. Draw a picture the best you can, but be sure to include "Newton's First Law."-10 points

3. Try to draw a decent turn, labeling all the parts of a turn-10 points.

B. For History, you will be graded as shown below:

1. Explain what the first Dirtbike was that they raced, in at least 1-2 sentences-10 points

2. Create your own motocross win ad with as much neatness as possible-10 points.

3. Write your paragraph in 5-7 full sentences explaining what you would have changed.

C. For Math, you will be graded as shown below:

1. Answer the math problem in at least 1-2 full sentences-10 points.

2. This is mostly a fun one, but you must play the game and record your results-10 points.

D. For Art, you will be graded as shown below:

1. Make sure your designs are neatly drawn, mostly participation-10 points.

2. Make sure your coloring is neatly drawn, mostly participation-10 points.

3. Make sure your designs are neatly drawn, mostly participation-10 points.

Conclusion

Now you should be able to race your motocross bike on your track after completing the callenges. You already know the history on motocross. You have also already designed your Dirtbike, helmet, and jersey. After that you built your track using the math problem. You were then able to practice on your motocross bike by playing the math game. So now you can go rip up the dirt with your new Dirtbike!

Teacher Page

This webquest is good for the teachers to show children. The reason for that is because it talks about all the main subjects, even art. In science, it will talk about gravity in the turns, and Newton's first law when crashing. In history you will learn about interesting facts about motocross back then. In math they will have to figure out a math problem on building a jump, they even get to play a small math game involving motocross. In art they get to design a Dirtbike, helmet, and a jersey for motocross. That is all why I think this is a good topic to learn about.
