Miss Emily's Kindergarten Class - Mother's Day Art Project

Introduction

Who is the most important lady in your life? The one who picks up your dirty clothes off of your floor and washes them for you? The one who gives you a bath when you have been playing in the mud all day? The one who cooks for you and keeps you healthy? The one who reads you bedtime stories at night until you fall asleep?

Your MOMMY of course!

Your mommies are the most special ladies in your lives! Today, we are going to spend time making something for her that will show just how much we appreciate her.

Task

You will sit in groups of 4 at your tables, but you will be working individually. Your mommy deserves a special flower with a sweet note from her little baby. So that is exactly what we are gonna give her!

This project is meant to be creative and fun. The goal is to create a beautiful, unique flower that your mommy will LOVE!

Process

  • You will be  tracing a flower on construction paper of your choice in color and I will help you cut it out.
  • When we cut it out, you will write your lovely mommy's name on it.
  • Next, you will write a sweet note on the back to make your mommy cry a happy tear.
  • Lastly, we will trace and cut out a stem for the flower from the green construction paper.
  • Then, you will glue the stem on the back of your flower.
  • To finish up, you will place the flower and the stem on the back table to dry.
  • Tomorrow, I will have them delivered to the library to be laminated so they will be nice and pretty for your wonderful mommies. :-)

Conclusion

Upon completion of the project, students will be prepared to read their notes to their mommies in front of the class on Mother's Day and they will give the flowers to their mommies. The students will now know how to cut out difficult designs like flowers and stems and be neater with glueing things together. Most importantly, they will have a greater appreciation for their mommies. :-)

Credits

This is the rubric I looked at and got ideas from for my rubric.

Other than that, I did not use any more resources.

I made all of it up in my head from what I remember from Mother's Day when I was in kindergarten and when I observed a classroom a couple of weeks ago.
