Mesopotamia - the Cradle of Civilisation

Introduction

We live in a world full of inventions; a world where technology is king. Every day, we use computers and other machines to make our lives simpler. We use machines to take us from one place to another, machines to write and make books, machines to make working in a farm simpler, and hundreds of other machines each and every day. We are so used to these machines that we are almost dependent on them. We also believe that machines are part of a modern lifestyle and that ancient people didn’t know about them.

But what if many of the machines and systems we use today were invented or discovered by people living more than 5000 years ago? Yes, 5000 years ago. That’s why you are going on a quest today to find out who these brilliant people were, where they lived and what they did.

Have fun exploring. Good luck!

Task

During this cyber quest, you will be asked to become geographers, agriculturalists, historians and archaeologists and to travel back in time to visit the ancient site of Mesopotamia. You will have to collect information and answer the little questions your teacher has given you.

Finally, you will put all your knowledge together to make a chart about Mesopotamia explaining, in your own words (at least 20 sentences), why it is called the Cradle of Modern Civilisation
