Introduction

Students will complete a webquest on the Ancient Mayan civilization for research. They will work in groups to answer key questions which will be presented in class.

Task


You will be given a handout and will be asked to research the Maya civilization. You may choose to break the cautegories up within your group so each person has a responsibility or work as an entire group to answer all of the questions.
Presentation:
When your group is finished, you will be responsible to present your research to the class and hand in a final copy to your teacher.

 

Process

You will navigate through the given websites to collect information for your key ideas.

Below are a few key ideas that should be shared with your classmates:

 Whereisyourcivilizationlocated?
 What cities, countries, bodies of water, natural features were around this area?
 Define the key vocabulary words that relate to your civilization.
 What type of homes did your civilization construct? What materials did they use?
 What was daily life like for the civilization?
 What system of government did your civilization have?
 Who were some important people in your civilization?
 What impact did Europeans have on your civilization?

What do I do if I finish early?
If your group finishes early, there are some projects that can be done.

Evaluation

You will be graded on the following:

1. Cooperation-Did I work well with my group? Did I do what was expected of me?
2. Completeness-Did I finish my job? Is it complete and satisfactory?
3. Neatness-Is my finished project readable? Did I use the margins correctly?
4. Presentation-Did I present my topic satisfactorily? Could the audience understand me?

Rubric for Presentations:

Volume

The volume of the speaker and/or group was loud and clear.

Pace

The information was presented at a pace the audience could understand.

Effort/Cooperation

Your best effort was evident. Everyone participated and cooperated.

Information

Your presentation provided valuable information.

Scoring Key

20-18 = A 17-16 = B 15-14 = C 13-12 = D 11 and below = F

Point Guidelines

5 = Above and Beyond 4 = Meeting Standard 3 = Working to Standard 2 = Developing
1 = Incomplete
