LWCN News Station Intern

Introduction

You have been hired by the local LWCN TV station as an intern. Since you are new, your supervisor directs you to work behind the camera. Your new job requires you to be on top of important issues in the community, state, and country.

Task

Your first task, as an intern, is to report on recent stories of justice, equality, responsibly, and freedom.

Process

   Step 1:

  1. Go to www.dictionary.com and look up the definition of the words (justice, equality, responsibility, and freedom.)
  2. Write the dictionary definition of each word.
  3. Write the definition in your own words for each word.
  4. Write a sentence for each word using the word.

Step 2:

  1. Go to http://www.restorativejustice.org/programme-place/10real-people-real-stories/?b_start:int=120 and pick an article to read about real life justice.
  2. Write a paragraph summary of the justice article. (write the title)
  3. Write an opinion statement. (2-3 sentences)

Step 3:

  1. Go to http://www.equalitynow.org/survivorstories and pick a person’s real life story to read about equality. (write the person’s name)
  2. Write a paragraph summary of the equality article.
  3. Write an opinion statement. (2-3 sentences)

Step 4:

  1. Go to http://www.chooseresponsibility.org/tell-us-your-story and pick a person’s real life story to read about real life responsibilities, must be at least 10 sentences in length. (write the person’s name)
  2. Write a paragraph summary of the responsibility article.
  3. Write an opinion statement. (2-3 sentences) 

Step 5:

  1. Go to http://thefederalist.com/2015/03/30/meet-10-americans-helped-by-religious-freedom-bills-like-indianas and pick an article about real life stories of freedom. (write the title)
  2. Write a paragraph summary of the freedom article
  3. Write an opinion statement. (2-3 sentences)

 

Evaluation

  1. Write a paragraph about which topic is the MOST important.
  2. Discuss with the members of your group about the topic you chose and explain why it is the most important.
  3. Turn in individual papers with your name and iPad when completed.

You have completed your first task as the new LWCN News Station intern! You submitted your findings to your supervisor and he/she seemed pleased with your work! You are now promoted to work as a fill-in newscaster when needed!

Teacher Page

  1. Divide the class into small groups (4 students per group)
  2. Instruct students to bring a pencil and paper.
  3. Have one student from each group get iPads and WebQuest paper for each student.
  4. Tell the students to follow the directions on the WebQuest
  5. Each student must do their own work
  6. When finished turn in paper and iPad.
