lines of symmetry

Introduction

Come along on a small journey of geometric shapes and lines of symmetry! What kinds of shapes you ask, well come and find out! Never heard of symmetry before, well you will after you explore this quest on your own to prove that you are a Fourth Grade Pro!

Task

You will navigate through the different websites that I have provided for you to learn about 2D geometric shapes and lines of symmetry on your own.  These are the 10 2D geometric shapes; triangle, polygon, quadrilateral, square, rectangle, parallelogram, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, and octagon.  After you have navigated all of the websites, you will print 5 different activity sheets to make sure you have learned to identify and describe the characteristics, differences, and similarities of geometric shapes along with knowing how to identify lines of symmetry. DO NOT WORRY CADETS because you get one whole week to finish your activity sheets.

Process

Step By Step Directions! DAY 1

1. Click on this website and scroll down to where it says List of Shapes and study these shapes for about 5 minutes.  These are the 2D geometric shapes you are to focus on.  Look at the clock so you know when to stop. Come back to this page when you are done.

2.Welcome Back! Now Take about 3 minutes to look at all of these different shapes that relate to the 2D geometric shapes you are focusing on on this website.  Come back to this page to continue your journey.

3. Hello Again! You may now enjoy playing games on these 2 websites.

4. Click on this website and press start to begin. You may play this game for about 5 minutes.  Remember to come back to this page.

7. After you have printed the 3 activity sheets you can work on them today Day 1 and tomorrow Day 2 and continue this journey on Day 3 Read and follow the directions on the top of each page.  Remember you can use any of the websites that are available as references for help on the activity sheets.

I'll see you back on Day 3.

TRY YOUR BEST!

Day 3

Nice to see you again!

Now you will continue on your journey to learn about lines of symmetry.

What is a Line of Symmetry?

Glad you asked...

A line of symmetry is an imaginary line that divides an image into two parts. Each of the two parts are identical to each other. Sometimes a line of symmetry is also referred to as reflection symmetry.

1. Here are 3 games on 3 different websites that you may play to learn about line of symmetry.

2. Click on this website and click on start to begin. Remember to come back to this page and take about 5 minutes to play.

then,

3. Click on this website and click on shapes to begin.  Remember to come back to this page and take about 5 minutes to play.

and finally,

4. Click on this website and wait for the instructions.  Remember to come back to this page and take about 5 minutes to play.

5. Welcome Back! Now you can click on this link and print the activity sheet on lines of symmetry.  Read and follow the directions on the top of the page.  Finish this sheet today Day 3 and you can also go back and use the games as reference for the activity sheet.  Keep your activity sheet do not lose it.

DAY 4

 Ready for the finale?

1. Click on this last link to print your final assignement. Remember to use any websites from the Days 1-4 to help you with your activity sheet.  Read and follow the directions on the top of the page.
