Process

ATTENTION: If you did this project last year and you do not want to do it again, you may do the alternate project on the "Conclusion" tab to the left of this box.

You MUST have NO LESS than 10 slides total. You do NOT have to do an entire song for a good grade, but if you want it to get lots of plays and potentially make $$$$$$$$$$$ on youtube, you need to have a full song. It takes a LOT of work, but is definitely worth it, especially if you want to be a professional youtuber.

Day 1: Whole group instruction/practice

Days 2-3: Individual prep (watch all tutorial and example videos that we didn't watch as a class)

Days 4-5: Research days - find a song OR a words from a scene from your favorite movie, game, or show and photos/animations that match with the words you are using.

Days 6-13: Work on project

Giphy.com (animations)/Google images (pictures)

Save image as...save to your folder. Insert image into slide.

  1. Open up your song in Google Drive. summitsuperstars@gmail.com, Google Drive, Audio folder
  2. Open MS document for the lyrics. SAVE into your folder as “lyrics”
  3. Open a PPT for the video. SAVE into your folder as “KT Your Name”
  4. Find the lyrics and cut and paste the lyrics onto a MS document and save to your folder.
  5. 5.       Listen to your song while reading the lyrics. Make sure the words are correct.
  6. Cut and paste 1 line to 4 lines of lyrics onto each PPT slide (starting after the title slide).
  7. Animate all of your lyrics (by letter, by the word, by line, whatever you choose).
  8. Go to online-stopwatch.com/split-timer/ and minimize it so you can see it in a little box.
  9. Open your lyrics from your MS document.
  10. Download your song and open it from the download folder with Windows Media Player.
  11. Time your music to the lyrics on each slide. Copy and paste times to lyrics document.
  12. Go to transitions, uncheck “start on mouse click”, and check the “after” box.
  13. Type in the seconds in that box for the slide.
  14. Insert audio, click on speaker icon, start automatically, play across slides, hide during presentation

Days 14-15: Presentations

  • Make SURE you read all the directions before starting.
  • If you forget how to do something, go back to the task page. There are MANY tutorials on everything we are doing in this project.
  • Take the first class day of this project to watch all the videos. I promise, it will really help!
  • Visit the evaluation tab to see how you can earn an A on this project.

Start up Steps

  1. Right click on your desktop.
  2. Click on New--> Folder
  3. Name the folder with your FULL NAME (first and last)
  4. All items you save will be saved to this folder.
  5. When you save the FIRST TIME, you will click SAVE AS, then click on desktop and your folder.
  6. When you save after the first time, just click save.
  7. When you save photos or animations to use in your powerpoint, right click and save them to your folder (read #5)
  8. Bring a flash drive to school. It can be any size.
  9. Choose a song to use. Pull up the lyrics (Links are on the task page) and get them approved by me. DO NOT CONTINUE TILL I APPROVE. If you do your project on an unapproved song, you will receive a zero.
  10. Copy and paste the lyrics into a Word document; save it to your folder.
  11. Open a PowerPoint. Click SAVE AS. Desktop. Your folder. Name it your name and lyrics (example: LewisLyrics)

AFTER you have done the first 11 steps, choose a song, pull up the lyrics, and get it approved by me. Once it's approved, I'll help you put it in your folder so you can insert it into your PPT.

Project Steps

  1. Open your PPT.
  2. Choose your design and background.
  3. Open up your lyrics. Copy and paste no more than 4 lines of lyrics on each slide.
  4. Next, go to https://www.google.com/imghp?hl=en&ei=lDmVVqyzCcikmwGBhZv4CQ&ved=0EKouCAIoAQ
  5. Go through each slide, and find a photo that fits with the lyrics on the slide. It can be funny, serious, or whatever, as long as it makes sense with the lyrics on THAT SLIDE and makes sense for the song. It canNOT be just photos of whoever sings the song, although you can include them throughout the video.
  6. Each time you find a photo, follow these steps:
    • click on "view image"
    • right click on the image
    • save as
    • desktop
    • your folder
    • name it something that will help you find it easily when you are making your PPT
  7. After you find AT LEAST ONE image or animation for each slide, you can start inserting the photos into the appropriate slides.
  8. Click on insert --> pictures --> desktop --> your folder --> click on the photo you want.
  9. Move the photo wherever you want it on your slide or make it the background. Do NOT cover up the lyrics.

Timing the lyrics or words

  1. Get a piece of paper or open a Word document
  2. Number 1 to however many slides you have
  3. Open up the online timer or use your watch http://stopwatch.onlineclock.net/
  4. Listen to the song you saved while you go through your powerpoint.
  5. Time how long the lyrics on each slide last.
  6. Write down that time next to the slide number on your paper or document.
  7. This will be the amount of time your slides last in the next section.

The result is that each slide's lyrics will match what the song is playing. You will want the slide/lyrics to change in unison (at the same time) as the song playing in the background.

Inserting the music

  1. Insert --> media --> audio --> audio on my pc --> desktop --> your folder --> click on the song
  2. Audio options --> play across slides
  3. Advance Slide sets the transition timing, by specifying how long a slide stays in view before the transition to the next slide begins. If no timing is selected, slides advance when the mouse is clicked.
  4. Select the slide that you want to set the timing for.
  5. On the Transitions tab, in the Timing group, under Advance Slide, do one of the following:
  6. To make the slide advance automatically, select the After check box, and then enter the number of minutes or seconds that you want. The timer starts when the final animation or other effect on the slide finishes.
  7. To start the automatic advance manually, select both the On Mouse Click check box and the After check box.
  8. Then, at After, enter the number of minutes or seconds that you want.
  9. After all animation or other effects on the slide are complete, the slide advance timer starts when you click the mouse
  10. To ensure the timings play correctly in Slide Show view, on the Slide Show tab, in the Set Up group, check the Use Timings check box.

OR you can record your own voice saying the words.

Here are some video tutorials that might help with your timing if you are still confused:

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jezvhCISQto]

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpMlfGpyp_I]

The result is that each slide's lyrics will match what the song is playing. You will want the slide/lyrics to change in unison (at the same time) as the song playing in the background.

If you want to make your slideshow into a movie:

  1. Slideshow -- Record Slide Show --> Start from beginning

Evaluation

So, what needs to be on each slide?

  • Slide 1 is your title slide... Your name, Song name, Date (September, 2016)
  • You MUST have at least 10 slides no matter what type of video you are making
  • Every slide MUST have 2-4 lines of lyrics, no more, no less
  • Every slide MUST have at least one graphic or animation that RELATES to the lyrics on that slide
  • ALL text on EVERY slide must be correct in spelling, grammar, and usage
  • PowerPoint must have a design/background
  • If you do the kinetic typography style, you will not need graphics since the lyrics ARE the graphics

ALTERNATE PROJECT

If you did a kinetic typography video last year and you do not want to do it again, then you may do this project instead. You will have the same amount of time as the other students to complete this project.

Music Powerpoint:

  • Must be at least 10 slides
  • Choose a genre of music and pick 7-8 artists to focus on from that genre.
  • Slide 1: Title slide
  • Slide 2: History on the genre, where it came from, describe the genre, etc.
  • At least 5 bullet points and a picture or video giving further explanation on Slide 2.
  • Slides 3-10: One artist per slide. You must list 5 bullet points at least with some background on the artist and the song you chose. You may post the youtube video or just the MP3 of the song on each slide. THERE CAN BE NO CURSING OR INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE OR VISUALS. I MUST APPROVE BEFORE YOU INSERT ON THE SLIDE. We won't be able to hear all of every song, so if you can just isolate a 10 second clip for both, that would be perfect. Otherwise, we'll just listen to the first few seconds and then switch to the next slide.
  • ALL the bullet points must have some type of kinetic typography/animation. Make it interesting!
